Last year was certainly an unlucky one, but maybe the luck of the Irish can help turn things around. In time for Saint Patrick’s Day, Alec Bradley has brought back its annual Black Market Filthy Hooligan and Shamrock holiday releases. The two seasonal smokes are shipping to retailers today.
Based on Alec Bradley’s Black Market blend, the Filthy Hooligan and Shamrock are presented in barber-pole fashion, meaning that the cigars are wrapped in multiple cover leaves of different colors to create a contrasting pattern that resembles a traditional barber pole.
The Filthy Hooligan ($10.50) comes in a bright green candela cover leaf against a darker Nicaraguan wrapper from the Jalapa Valley. The Shamrock ($12.50) is rolled in three wrapper leaves: green candela, dark Nicaraguan Habano maduro and a lighter shade of natural Nicaraguan Habano tobacco.

While prices for most of the Arturo Fuente Cigar Co. portfolio are staying the same starting 2021, the company announced that there’s been a slight price increase on less than one percent of the company’s product line. According to an official release, the minor adjustment works out to an average increase of three percent, shouldered by a few select sizes.
“The small number of select cigars that are receiving a small price adjustment are only those in the Chateau Fuente line, as well as short fillers such as Curly Heads and Brevas Royale,” Liana Fuente told

In an effort to clarify the sometimes convoluted application process for new tobacco products, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, which regulates the sale of tobacco, has finalized its foundational rules for its premarket review process, meaning that there should be greater clarity, detail and information regarding the requirements for pathways to market. However, a court ruling from August of 2020 currently exempts the premium cigar industry from the regulation.
The two major pathways to market for new cigars and other tobacco products are either a premarket tobacco product application (PMTA) or substantial equivalence (SE). The FDA believes that the application process for either pathway is now more effective and efficient, providing more details and insight as to the necessary steps required by a manufacturer looking to introduce new tobacco products to the market.
