On Monday, a seller advertised his mobile phone for sale on Gumtree. A buyer said he would collect it at 9pm and arrived at Barns Close to secure the deal. He showed the victim some cash before putting it in an envelope and then switching it for an empty one walking away with the phone and the envelope full of cash. When the seller realised, he had been scammed moments later he chased after him but the criminal pushed him over and then made a getaway in a dark coloured car. Writing on Facebook, Thames Valley Police South Oxon and the Vale of White Horse area warned: “When selling items online try and arrange for the items to be collected during daylight hours as there has been several incidents where mobile phones and Playstations have been taken without the seller being paid.”
