WHO Director-General s opening remarks at the launch of fundraising initiative by Qatar Red Crescent Society for vaccine equity Format Honorable Ministers, Excellencies, dear colleagues and friends, Assalamu Alaikum, and Ramadan Mubarak, Thank you for the opportunity of joining you today, and thank you for your commitment to vaccine equity. The COVID-19 pandemic has been a devastating demonstration that we are one humanity, and that we can only face shared threats with shared solutions. While the pandemic has affected all of us, the poorest and most marginalized have been hit hardest - both in terms of lives and livelihoods lost. Since the beginning of the pandemic, WHO has been working with many partners to scale up the distribution of vaccines, tests, personal protective equipment and other essential supplies all over the world.

Qatar Red Crescent Society launches Ramadan campaign

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) recently launched its annual Ramadan campaign. The 19th edition of the campaign, ‘Race to All That is Good,’ entails several humanitarian projects for 2,540,601 people in Qatar and 21 other countries, QRCS said. The campaign will be carried out in coordination with QRCS’s foreign representation missions and offices and fellow national societies. The activities will focus on Ramadan Iftar, Eid Clothing, Zakat-ul-Fitr, and various relief and development projects during and after the holy month of Ramadan. Sheikh Abdullah bin Thamer Al Thani, president of QRCS announced the launch of the campaign. “Ramadan is the month of blessing, when the believers do their best in worship, the benevolent people pay for charity, and those in need find support,” Sheikh Abdullah said.

The Peninsula President of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) Sheikh Abdullah bin Thamer Al Thani met Yemen s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, H E Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak who headed a delegation to discuss the humanitarian situation in Yemen. The meeting was attended by Ali bin Hassan Al Hammadi, Secretary-General; Eng. Ibrahim Abdullah Al Malki, CEO; Faisal Mohamed Al Emadi, Executive Director of Relief and International Development Division; Mohamed Rashid Al Marri, Director of Communication and Public Relations; Dr. Fawzi Oussedik, Head of International Relations and International Humanitarian Law; and Adel Al Baker, Director of the Office of QRCS’s President.
