Debswana CEEP has created 14 200 jobs

The Debswana Citizen Economic Empowerment Programme (CEEP) is a pioneering initiative that has been successful in creating jobs and increasing local spend in Botswana. With a target of reaching 20,000 jobs by next year, the programme has already created 14,200 jobs and has spent P15.9 billion in the local market.

The strategy is anchored in restructuring of mines and improving efficiencies throughout the group’s operations. Diamond giant’s huge future plans As part of its ambitious new strategy, and in keeping with the digital revolution, diamond giants, Debswana are set to embark on a money-spinning digitization journey. According to Debswana’s Head of Transformation and Innovation, Thabo Balopi, adapting to technological ways of mining will ultimately deliver P10 billion value to shareholders. ENCOURAGING TRANSFORMATION: Thabo Balopi Speaking at a stakeholder engagement recently, Balopi was quick to reassure Debswana’s workers that the company’s digital drive would not be the end of them. “Our key focus is how we are going to take people along as we embark on this journey,” he stated.

Debswana to Invest Billions in Underground Mine

Debswana, the joint venture between the Botswana government and Anglo American’s De Beers unit, intends to invest US$6 billion to build the world’s largest underground diamond mine at Botswana’s Jwaneng. The mine is already considered the richest mine by value for the precious stones. The underground mine will have more than 360 km of tunnel development and is expected to hit full production by 2034, Debswana’s head of transformation and innovation, Thabo Balopi, said at a briefing in the capital, Gaborone, last Friday.
