Professor Emeritus Kate Rowold is a scholar of the social and aesthetic history of fashion. As a Professor in the fashion design program at Indiana University-Bloomington (1979-2019), Rowold directed dozens of graduate students, sponsored more than 60 Individualized Major Program fashion design students, and taught hundreds of undergraduate students studying fashion history and apparel merchandising. In her role as Curator of the Sage Collection of Fashion and Culture (1985-2017), Rowold curated in excess of 30 exhibitions of clothing and related objects, including the Bill Blass retrospective installed at the Indiana University Art Museum (2002), for which she co-authored “Bill Blass: An American Designer”, published by Abrams. One of her final projects at IU, before her retirement in 2019, was to foster a relationship with Glenn Close which resulted in Ms. Close’s donation of her unique costume collection to the IU Sage Collection.
