pat. he thinks mike deserves it. the senior legal analyst is here with us now. elliot, meadows is the highest ranking trump official who has responded to a subpoena by the d.o.j. what could this mean for the investigation and for trump? mark meadows is a pivotal figure of this investigation. he was chief of staff. he was with donald trump s side, in the weeks and months leading up to. and on january 6th, he was the insider s insider. about a year ago now, the house january 6th committee, subpoenaed mark meadows. and he compliyied sort of. he turned over text records showing key players, republican elected officials, media figures, top trump advisers all going through mark meadows talking about january 6th and the plan to steal the election. one example, jim jordan, representative, texted mark meadows. vice president mike pence should
accountability. i think that needs to be accountability for a federal agency here. if we let them off the hook on this one, i think that all bets are off. i think that we but what is accountability, olivia, with this one? that s a good question. i think it s accountability at the leadership level, first and foremost. you are putting the onus on these agents to backup their texts. but also, i ve got to say, if you are a secret service agent and you are making constant we ll time security decisions in that role, you are playing a critical role in the national security operatives. you are protecting the life of the president. you are protecting the leaders of the country. and you decide that those text records were not important enough to save, even for historical purposes, they decided that, hey, i will just go ahead and delete them i am just not i am sorry, i m just really confused by that. i m confused about the judgment call on that one. i will tell you this. people watched
the justice department and vice versa, so this is the first time we re seeing sort of a merging or at least a request for merging where, you know, this house committee could actually be providing evidence for the criminal case that so many people have been calling for that investigation. and luke, i believe it s your byline on a piece of reporting that offered sort of the clearest window into how the house committee was operating, very much like a criminal prosecution. just go over for us what that looked like, that the house committee had they had phone metadata, i think. they had subpoenas for other documents. they had thousands of mark meadows documents. i mean, just talk about how this house investigation has conducted itself. yeah, sure, absolutely. the, you know, they ve requested not only phone records and text records but also bank records. they have been using the techniques that have been used against other against
