Triston Gibbons set a new Barbados senior shot put record of 18.89 metres at the Drakes Relays while representing Houston University. (GP) Social Share
Southpaw strongman Triston Gibbons flexed his muscles to a new national shot put record at the Drakes Relays on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
Competing for the University of Houston, the 21-year-old Gibbons put the shot to a lifetime best 18.89 metres.
While Gibbons finished fifth, he erased his previous best mark of 18.75 he set at the 93rd Houston Spring Break Invitational on March 27 when he broke Tristan Whitehall’s 2015 Barabdos record of 17.45 metres.
The former Coleridge & Parry and Harrison College student also had a big heave of 18.73 metres on April 10 at the Texas A&M Team Invitational.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Arkansas won two of the three events they contested during the Friday portion of the Texas A&M Team Invitational at EB Cushing Stadium.
Lauren Martinez set an outdoor career best of 14 feet, 2 ½ inches (4.33) to claim the pole vault over teammate Nastassja Campbell, who matched the winning height. Both Razorbacks matched the facility record of the relatively new venue.
A close finish in the 200m had Tiana Wilson capturing the victory in a wind-aided 23.07 (+3.1 wind) over a 23.17w for teammate Jada Baylark. Arkansas dominated the event, finishing 1-2-4-5-7-9.
In the long jump, G’Auna Edwards matched the winning mark of 21-2w (6.45) but finished second overall based on the three inch difference of her second best mark.
