More than a dozen arrest warrants were executed in the Upper Valley Thursday as part of an operation targeting the Texas Syndicate gang.
Federal and local officers conducted raids in Edinburg, McAllen, and rural areas of Hidalgo County. Several suspects were arrested, and agents seized drugs, firearms, and money.
Those in custody face numerous charges including drug trafficking and drug possession. Thursday’s roundup was part of a larger anti-gang operation that began in 2019.

A man whose sentence was commuted by President Barack Obama is one of eight people arrested by local, state and federal authorities for allegedly distributing illegal drugs in San Antonio.
Hilario “Shorty” Nieto, 41, is named in an eight-count federal indictment charging him and the others arrested with one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and heroin.
Others arrested alongside Nieto on Tuesday and named in the indictment include Daniel Castaneda, 31; Joe Sanchez, 29; Melissa Molina, 40; Deanna Diaz, 31; Martin Reynosa, 56, a former Texas Mexican Mafia member; and Maria Rivas, 58, officials said.

SHERMAN, Texas – A 48-year-old Zapata, Texas man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for drug trafficking crimes in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Stephen J. Cox today.
Jose Ernesto-Medrano pleaded guilty on Sep. 10, 2019, to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and was sentenced to 360 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant on Dec. 9, 2020.
According to information presented in court, beginning in 2017, law enforcement officers received information that Medrano, a multi-convicted felon and member of the Texas Syndicate prison gang, was conducting drug trafficking transactions in the Plano, Texas area.
