Cut and Shoot, Ding Dong, Frognot and Looneyville typify the many odd place names across the state of Texas. With Texas names as a background, we will create the general principles of naming and use examples from Texas, Illinois and Wisconsin. We will see how names become official. The importance of place names in lore and literature will be examined as well as the politics of names and naming.
