Weslaco mayor speaks out after Covid-positive migrants found in local hotel

A group of Covid-positive migrants were found staying at a hotel in Weslaco. City Mayor David Suarez said the city found out about the temporary housing of the migrants on Thursday. They’re staying at the Texas Inn Hotel on north Texas Boulevard. Mayor Suarez said the migrants were released from federal custody and into the hands of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley. The organization then moved the migrants into the hotel. Suarez is now calling on the organization to let city officials know when they house Covid infected migrants in their city. We take this matter very seriously, and our priority in Weslaco has been and continues to be the health and wellness of our community,” Mayor Suarez said in a statement. “We graciously ask Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley to help us protect all lives, including those most vulnerable to COVID-19 complications.
