TEXAS New cases of COVID-19 and resultant hospitalizations in Texas continue to decline as more people get vaccinated but the latest numbers from the state show the virus is still present and we have not achieved anything resembling herd immunity.
The Texas Department of State Health Services on Sunday reported 919 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 345 new probable cases for a total of 1,264. The state additionally reported 25 new deaths attributed to the virus.
DSHS data shows 2,549 people are currently hospitalized in Texas with the virus. The state reports 49,303 people have died due to the virus in Texas but data from Johns Hopkins University, which tends to be higher, puts that number over 50,000.
