KILLEEN, TX â The Innovation Black Chamber of Commerce kicked off their Texas Black Business Week with a reception in Killeen.
Organizers said their organization began to flourish during the pandemic as many of their members sought out help to keep their businesses afloat.
âPeople wanted to know where is, who to receive information, how to utilizing technology where they were going through email campaigns, Facebook live campaigns, or transitioning into SMS marketing with cell phones, text messages, just trying different things in order to give us the ultimate opportunity to be successful, Ronnie Russell, founder of the Innovation Black Chamber of Commerce said.

KILLEEN, TX â The pandemic has hit every business hard, including Black-owned businesses and businesses owned by other people of color.
Tamara Freeman opened her Black-owned business, Sweet Eats Bakery, in 2005.
âI know they were very few Black businesses, but as far as bakeries, I didnât know of any,â she said.
Over the past 15 years, Freeman has seen her business grow and thrive, but she said many other businesses owned by people of color havenât had the same story.
âSeveral come but they donât last. I know several are military, and they come and they go,â she said. However, for the ones that could possibly stay, I feel the information or the help that could have been provided for them wasnât available.â
