Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited the Heliopolis Commonwealth War Cemetery here and offered tributes to the Indian soldiers who bravely fought and laid down their lives in Egypt and Palestine during the First World War.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Egypt's highest state honour, 'Order of the Nile', by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. This is the 13th such highest state honour that various countries across the world have conferred upon PM Modi.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to the Al-Hakim Mosque in Egypt.The important historical and cultural site from the 11th century in Cairo, Egypt, will receive honours from the prime.
Modi's visit, the first by any Indian PM since 1997, is of significance as Egypt has traditionally been one of India's most important trading partners in the African continent.
