He described such structures as “illegal”, adding that they sprang up on the blind side of the authorities either in the night or at weekends, saying that it was the result of indiscipline in the country. Demolition Speaking to journalists last Monday at a reception in Accra, Mr Amoako Atta said those involved had done so at their own risk, “because I can assure you that the structures will all be pulled down once construction works begin”.

Contract for Accra-Tema Motorway expansion signed

Scope of contract As part of the contract, the release said the existing 19.5kilometre motorway is to be reconstructed and expanded into a two-lane dual carriageway for the freeway and a three-lane dual carriageway for the urban highway. The freeway will remain concrete surfacing whilst the urban highway will be in asphaltic concrete with paved shoulders. The Tetteh Quarshie Interchange – Apenkwa Interchange (5.7km) is also to be reconstructed into a 6-lane dual carriageway with asphaltic concrete surfacing while the Tesano Junction – Neoplan Junction (2.5km) will be reconstructed into a three-lane dual carriageway in asphaltic concrete surfacing. Additionally, Mota Engil is to construct five new interchanges at Lashibi, Community 18 Junction, Teshie Link Junction, Dzorwulu Junction and Neoplan Junction to facilitate traffic movement at the junctions, remodel the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange to eliminate congestion, provide streetlights and construct toll booths.

Contract for Accra-Tema Motorway, extension projects signed LISTEN 4 The Ministry of Roads and Highways says plans are far advanced to have work begin on the design and construction of the Accra-Tema Motorway as well as other extension projects in the country. This follows the successful signing of a contract by the Government with Mota-Engil, Engenharia E Construcao Africa SA, for the project after approval by the Public Procurement Authority and the Central Tender Review Board. A statement issued and signed by Mr Kwasi Amoako-Atta, the Roads and Highways Minister and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra noted that the project would take place from the Tema Interchange through Apenkwa Interchange to Neoplan Junction.
