Project to support vulnerable families in Milford Haven launched

A new pilot project has been launched to support some of the most vulnerable families in the Milford Haven area, helping them to get through what is perhaps the most difficult part of the pandemic so far. The Milford Community Action project is aiming to help up to 100 local families who are experiencing financial hardship, require additional support from local services, or whose children care for other family members. There will be a variety of practical support given in an attempt to help families both in the short term, and also guidance to help them build for a brighter future.

It follows news that positive cases in Pembrokeshire increased by more than 30% in the week ending January 7 The county recorded 316 new positive tests for the virus from 1st to 7th January. This compares to 240 new positive tests in Pembrokeshire during the previous week. “This is a really difficult time in the pandemic and Pembrokeshire is not immune,” said Darren Thomas, helping to lead the Covid-19 response at Pembrokeshire County Council.

Meet the Pembrokeshire cyclists who rode 493 miles for charity

THE Anchorage Social Activity Centre in Pembroke Dock is to benefit from a fundraising boost of almost £2,300, thanks to a group of cyclists from the Pembrokeshire Velo Club. Over the course of four days, Ross McNally, Shane Davies, Shaun Newbury, Liam Rowlands, and Rob Dyde circumnavigated the whole of Wales on their bikes. Covering 493 miles, the group cycled for 30 hours, climbing 35,505 feet (higher than Mount Everest) and raising £2,284.31 in total. The fundraising was coordinated by Ross McNally, who is related to one of the customers at the Anchorage. “It was challenging ride but a pleasure raising money for such a worthy cause and I know it will be greatly appreciated,” said Ross, who works for RWE Pembroke Power Station along with Shane Davies.
