The space was there all along. Hidden away in the basement area of the Child Development Centre on Strathcona Avenue. For over a decade, it had been used only for storage. Now, thanks to helping hands and a $450,000 pledge from Variety-Children's Charity of B.C., the centre will be able to transform 6,000 square feet into much needed office and service areas.
The $1 million dollar expansion project is expected to get underway soon with June 2005 as the targeted completion date. It will be helped along by a provincial government capital building grant of $100,000.
Project manager Mary Jarbek made the centre’s announcement Wednesday at a gathering of parents, children, dignitaries and media. Architects drawings were displayed at the CDC site, showing detailed plans for the space.
