John Howard Society looking to raise money for LGTBQ2S+ youth shelter

By Josh Sigurdson Apr 22, 2021 11:22 AM The John Howard Society of Saskatchewan has launched a capital campaign supporting a new youth shelter for LGTBQ2S+ youth. Lulu’s Lodge, a 5-bedroom house in Regina is aimed at providing residence to LGTBQ2S+ youth aged 16-21, who may otherwise be homeless. CEO of the John Howard Society, Shawn Fraser says the new house was acquired with the help of the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation. Fraser says the new space provides more opportunities. “Since that time, the program’s continued to grow and evolve, and we’ve helped a lot of people in the short time that we’ve had programming running,” said Fraser. “We’re just hoping to make that program stronger, and stronger, and part of that is reaching out to people today to ask for help in paying down that mortgage. Our goal is to raise $100,000 in the next two years.”

Lulu s Lodge relying on community to help fund new home for LGBTQS+ youth

REGINA Lulu’s Lodge is launching a new capital campaign in hopes of raising $100,000 for its new home to protect LGBTQ2S+ youth who are facing homelessness. The new five bedroom home will provide youth aged 16-21 a place to stay when they have no where else to go. They will also have access to a mentor who provides guidance on education, physical health, mental wellness, family reunification, legal matters and advocacy. The John Howard Society of Saskatchewan (JHSS) was able to purchase the home with the help of the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, but because it has no government funding for programs, it is relying on the community to fund the rest of the mortgage.

LGBT activists accuse Regina pastor of promoting hate

(Regina Victory Church/Facebook) LGBT activists are accusing a Regina pastor of spreading hate towards the gay and transgender communities. In a sermon posted to Facebook and YouTube, Pastor Terry Murphy of Victory Church made multiple comments that many are calling hateful. “It started maybe in the 70’s or 80’s. We had the start of the cultural push to normalize homosexuality. On TV shows, in the movies, in the media, everywhere. Normalizing this behaviour that, before then, was not considered normal. (It) was considered abnormal … The normalizing of this behaviour has caused chaos in a lot of ways,” he said, among other things, in the March 7 sermon.
