This project was inspired by a story that my aunt told me about a distant cousin who grew up on the south side of chicago in the 1930s. The story begins with a parade. The historic but. And parade, an annual parade that continues to this day. On isis lang summer morning in august, my cousin left from her bed to find the best spot to be at the parade. She joined the crowd that numbered in the thousands and she cheered as drum majors, baton twirlers and celebrities and convertibles passed by.
