VINELAND – State health officials suspended a South Jersey emergency medical technician instructor they say certified students completed their training despite dismissing them halfway through their refresher courses.
EMT instructor Thomas Eppler also failed to provide the mandated hands-on practices and skill evaluations during the abbreviated courses, state officials charge in their Dec. 4 summary suspension notice.
To maintain their certifications, EMTs must obtain continuing education credits, which they may earn by completing a series of three 8-hour refresher classes.
Last month, the state Office of Emergency Medical Services received an anonymous tip that students signed up for July and August refresher classes – conducted by Eppler on behalf of Onsite Learning Associates LLC – did not receive the required amount of class time or instruction.
