Tears mixed with pride. Those were the sentiments of many who attended a special event last Saturday as a Viet Nam war hero was honored on the 50th anniversary of his death.
American flags flew throughout Manvelâs cemetery as Army Sgt. Dennis Valusek, who was killed in Cambodia on June 8, 1970, was honored by his fellow soldiers.
Along with several members of his platoon, family and friends gathered as Cpt. Fred Drew, Valusekâs company commander, conducted the ceremony.
All five of Valusekâs siblings attended the event: Lois Booth and Terri Dalmolin from Manvel; Robert Valusek from Pasadena, Bannie Lenardezzi from Beeville and Lois Valusek from Alvin.
