Chile concludes cherry shipping season
TPS (Terminal Pacífico Sur Valparaíso), the operator of Port Valparaíso, Chile’s busiest port, recently announced the end of its cherry shipping season. From November 2020 to January this year, 170,000 tons of cherries were shipped, of which exports to Asia accounted for 99%. TPS also shipped 8,000 tons to other regions this season, seeing a year-on-year increase of 113.95%.
It is reported that the Cherry Express service offered by TPS that connects Valparaíso, an important seaport on the west coast of South America and Hong Kong, reduced the shipping time to 23 days, which greatly improves transportation efficiency. This fast, efficient, and direct cherry transportation service was launched a few years ago, largely to meet the market demand during the Chinese New Year. TPS Valparaiso mobilizes more than 170,000 tons of Chilean cherries
Oliver Weinreich, the general manager of TPS, stated that 170,000 tons of cherries had been exported via the Terminal Pacífico Sur Valparaíso (TPS) between November 2020 and January of this year.
Almost all of the shipments were destined for Asia, with great support from the Cherry Express service, which connects Valparaiso with Hong Kong in 23 days. This service has been operating for some years to ship this fruit more efficiently, faster, and directly to meet China s high demand for cherries on the Chinese New Year.
The exported cherries were shipped to their destinations on chamber and container ships.
