Park City, UT After six days and 73 feature films, the 2021 Sundance Film Festival’s Awards Ceremony took place tonight, hosted by actor and comedian Patton Oswalt, with jurors presenting 24 prizes for feature filmmaking and seven for Short Films. Sian Heder’s “CODA,” one of the 2021 Sundance Film Festival’s opening-day screenings, was the big winner at the awards ceremony Tuesday night. The film took home the U.S. Dramatic Grand Jury Prize, the U.S. Dramatic Audience Award, as well as the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Ensemble Cast. Heder was also honored with the U.S. Dramatic Directing Award.

A dramatic feature about the only member of a family who can hear and a documentary about a forgotten 1969 music festival stole the hearts of viewers and swept the top honors Tuesday night during the 2021 Sundance Film Festival award ceremony.

February 2, 2021 / 10:56 PM / CBS News CODA, a touching coming-of-age dramedy about a young girl in conflict with her deaf parents and brother as she attempts to pursue singing a talent they cannot fully appreciate received top honors at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.
The film received the Grand Jury Prize for U.S. Drama, as well as the Audience Award, a director s award for Siân Heder and a special jury award for its ensemble cast, which includes Emilia Jones, Marlee Matlin, Troy Kotsur, Daniel Durant, Eugenio Derbez and Ferdia Walsh-Peelo. CODA (an acronym for Child Of Deaf Adults) also set a record last week when worldwide distribution rights were picked up by Apple Studios for $25 million the highest sum ever for a film premiering at Sundance.

Today, the Golden Globe nominations were announced, and the results were pretty bad! So perhaps we should try to cleanse our palates with the 2021 Sundance Film Festival awards. This year’s Sundance was virtual, and while that experience can’t hold a candle to being on the ground in Park City, the festival organizers deserver lots of credit for putting the fest together in any capacity and running it smoothly. The 2021 Sundance Film Festival concluded Tuesday night with a virtual awards ceremony, honoring “CODA” a family drama centered on a high school student who is the child of deaf adults (hence the title) with four prizes in the U.S. Dramatic Competition category: the grand jury prize, the directing prize, the audience award and a special jury prize for best ensemble.
It is the first film in Sundance history to win all three top prizes in the U.S. Dramatic category.
