For C. Andrew “Andy” McGadney, there are three ways to move Knox College forward acknowledge the college’s identity, double down on its strengths, and dream big.
Knox College will officially inaugurate its 20th President on Friday. The public is invited to the ceremony that will install C. Andrew McGadney as Knox President at the historic Orpheum Theater at 11 a.m. Among the speakers set for the event will be Galesburg Mayor Peter Schwartzman who is also a current Knox professor and founder of their environmental studies program. The installation will be recorded and shared on the Knox College Inauguration website the following day for those who cannot make it to campus to attend. Delegates from more than 40 colleges and universities throughout the United States will attend. McGadney is the first person of color to serve as Knox College president, an institution that was founded by abolitionists and supporters of the Underground Railroad. This comes are the previous Knox President, Teresa Amott, who was the college's first female president.
Former Knox College President Teresa Amott has been recognized by Presidents of schools that make up the Midwest Conference with the Thomas Kunkel Presidential Engagement Award. Amott is only the second recipient of this award that honors outstanding engagement and investment in the betterment of the MWC by a non-athletic institutional representative. Amott was Knox's 19th president from 2011 to 2021 and fittingly, presented the first Kunkel Award to its namesake in 2017. Current chair of the Midwest Conference Presidents' Council Barbara Farley says Amott "provided exemplary leadership of the Conference during challenging times." During a seven-year tenure on the Presidents' Board, Amott helped guide colleges and their leaders through the COVID-19 pandemic, changes in conference membership, and hiring new conference office personnel.
