Today a group well acquainted with the danger, nepalese guides, was killed when an avalanche came crashing down. It happened at 19,000 feet. At least 12 were killed, making it the deadliest disaster on mt. Everest ever. Four are missing. Clarissa ward begins our coverage. Reporter the avalanche hit early in the morning as local guides known as sherpas readied the route for other climbers. With no apparent warning, a wall of snow and ice swept over the western shoulder of everest. That part of the path is nicknamed the popcorn field, due to its distinctive, jagged blocks of ice that from a distance make it look like a bowl of popcorn. Today, that heartbreak boiled over into anger as relatives of the dead and missing rushed officials giving a media briefing, even throwing something at one. The death toll now stands at 36 after thirteen more bodies were found today. But with more than 265 people still missing, most of them students from a single high school, it is a number that will almost certainly rise. The captain of the ferry has now been arrested, along with two crew members. Prosecutors say the ships inexperienced third mate was at the helm in challenging waters when the ferry sank.
