Uncle Killed Over Goblin Responsible For Deaths On Family Members

By James Muonwa, Mashonaland West Correspondent AN elderly Karoi man died after he was attacked by a nephew who accused him of possessing a blood-sucking goblin believed to have been the source of mysterious deaths in the family. This came out during the trial of Anyway Kugotsi (28) of Chawasarira village, Chief Mujinga, Tengwe in Hurungwe district, last week. Anyway appeared before Chinhoyi magistrate Melody Rwizi facing murder on uncle Themba Kugotsi (age not given). He was remanded in custody and advised to apply for bail through the High Court. Themba was younger brother to Anyway’s late father. The court heard that on 9 January 2021, Anyway’s young sister Munashe drowned while trying to cross a flooded river.

By James Muonwa, Mashonaland West Correspondent A DRUNK 34-year-old Zvimba man has been sentenced to 30 days imprisonment for beating his wife after she served him sadza and mushroom, a dish he dislikes. The accused Luckson Chimangariso of Man’ai Village in Zvimba was convicted on his own plea of guilty when he appeared Monday before Chinhoyi magistrate Melody Rwizi facing charges domestic violence charges. He was, however, given an option to pay a $5 000 fine before 15 February 2021 or risk being jailed. The state case was that on 20 January 2021 and at Man’ai Village at around midnight, the accused returned home from a beer drink and found his wife, Harriet Chigogo (31) sleeping.

By James Muonwa, Mashonaland West Correspondent A 26-year-old traditional healer who was arrested over the brutal murder of a Chinhoyi man during an ill-fated cleansing ceremony, was Friday granted ZWL$1 000 bail. Chinhoyi magistrate Melody Rwizi granted Isaac Tete his freedom following consent from the Prosecutor-General’s office. Among other bail conditions, Tete was ordered to report to police once every fortnight, not to interfere with witnesses and to continue residing at his last given address until finalisation of the case. He was remanded to 1 April 2021. Tete had appeared in court Thursday facing murder and had to spend the night in custody.

By James Muonwa, Mashonaland West Correspondent A TRADITIONAL cleansing ceremony turned tragic recently after a self-styled healer bashed a Chinhoyi man to death using a log on the pretext he was attacking goblins. The traditional healer, Isaac Tete (26) of Anthens Compound, Chinhoyi Thursday appeared in court facing murder. The court heard that between 9 and 11 January 2021 at Long Valley Plots, Murereka, Lion’s Den, Tete was performing a healing ceremony to purportedly get rid of goblins he claimed were tormenting Vunganai Munyengedze (age not given). In the process, he picked up a log and started beating up the now deceased all over his body.
