Greater Norwich Area Chamber Restaurant Week supports the industry

NORWICH The Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce is running its restaurant week from now until May 2, where people are encouraged to buy food from participating local restaurants by making a $10 or greater purchase. Customers will then be able to scan a bar code at a poster or table card, giving them a chance at winning a $25 gift card to one of the participating restaurants. GNACC Executive Director Angela Adams said there are more than double the amount of participants this year at 46, compared to the usual 18 to 22. Adams said it’s been easier for restaurants to participate this year because there isn’t a requirement to come up with a promotional menu, as many places still have overall smaller menus due to the pandemic.

Sweet Momma’s Bakery opened Dec. 29 at 87 Town St., near the Norwichtown Green. Owner Jean Smith, though, has been baking as a side business since 1978, offering desserts and, later, catering service. She also worked part-time at Shop-Rite Supermarket, on top of her full-time job as a judicial marshal at Norwich Superior Court.
