democratically elected president had the temerity to decide for its own purposes that it wanted to join nato. with respect to sweden, finland, or other countries that want to join nato, the united states has been clear, the nato allies have been clear, that nato, as a defensive alliance is open to applications for countries who want to join. those applications will be reviewed. and you ve heard favorable comments by the current secretary-general of nato, on potential applications by sweden and finland. what i d say is the united states, the nato allies are not going to be intimidated by russia and decide that we re going to change the open door policy of nato that has served us so well over decades. and it s you know, we are not going to succumb to those type of threats. neil: so ambassador, when
it s a struggle for a lifetime. and as you rightfully said, progress is five steps forward, three steps back. it is not linear and it does require demand. and, so, what we must do is not be deterred. if john lewis and amelia boynton still had the temerity to get up two days later and to go and march again, we too must not be deterred by two senators or even by the 16 republican senators that voted for the reauthorization of the voting rights act of 2006 and now will not vote for it. you know, i think that it s really a high sign of hypocrisy, but we who are in this movement must be consistent and we must be persistent. what do you say to members of the democratic party faithful,
this person s individual qualities, to see that this is a kind of, like, target on someone s back before they have even been named, um, justice sotomayor was also attacked supposedly as being quote a bully, not smart enough. some of those people have apologized because they have seen her sterling record on the court. so i have noticed similar attacks being leveled at judge ketanji brown jackson who, just a few months ago, was elevated to the d.c. circuit and got republican votes and was a breyer clerk, is a distinguished, qualified nominee like every other person. by the way, i am also ready for justice michelle goodwin may i just say? but the you know, i i just think it s they are showing their cards here, and in a way, what s the point? the democrats have the votes. why are they creating a target out of an individual who hasn t even been named yet and just has temerity to be a qualified black
quote, legitimate political discourse, while centering two of its members for having the temerity to get to the bottom of what s actually happened that day by joining the january 6th committee. now we are actually starting to see some republican senators offer some qualified pushback. i think the rnc is out of its frame, quite honestly. i think all of us want to talk about forward not backward. we ve got issues that we should be focusing on besides censure ring to members of congress because they have a different opinion. they said in the resolution that they wanted republicans to be unified. that was not a unifying action. anything that my party does that comes across as being stupid is not going to help us. each of those republican senators showed some willingness to distance themselves from what is now the official position of their own party. that itself is actually remarkable thinking these days. it s a message being embraced
coney barrett filled that seat. beyond the individual qualities, this is a target on someone before they ve been named. justice sotomayor was attacked as supposedly a bully, not smart enough. some have apologized seeing her sterling record on the court. i have noticed similar attacks against judge brown jackson who got republican votes in elevation to court. she was distinguished nominee like every other person. also ready for justice michelle goodwin. they re showing their cards here and what s the point? democrats have the votes, why are they creating a target out of an individual who hasn t even been named yet, just the temerity to be a qualified black
