Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) and Pathnova Laboratories, a medical diagnostic company backed by Temasek Life Sciences Accelerator and headquartered in Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory, is contributing to Singapore s COVID-19 diagnostic capability through its partnership in a new clinical diagnostic laboratory.
Amid the ongoing global COVID-19 situation, the lab plans to tap advanced technology like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data analytics to innovate, boosting the country s future pandemic response.
Situated at NTU Singapore s Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) Novena Campus, the NTU Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory was set up in April 2020 by a team of academic researchers, in support of the national effort to increase diagnostic testing capacity and commenced Covid-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing on 1 July 2020.

Singapore awards $23 mln to grant call in urban food production
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has awarded over $23 million in funding to 12 projects under the grant call for research and development (R&D) in ‘Sustainable Urban Food Production. The grant call is under the Singapore Food Story (SFS) R&D Programme which aims to develop the local agri-tech R&D ecosystem and sustainable urban food solutions to support Singapore’s “30 by 30” goal1 for food security. The grant call will provide funding support for innovative research projects that address challenges facing the tropical aquaculture and urban agriculture industries.
Among the 12 awarded proposals, eight are in the domain of aquaculture and four in urban agriculture.
SINGAPORE - The TracieX breathalyser by Singapore medtech firm Silver Factory Technology, which is currently being trialled, uses a sensor chip to identify the molecular fingerprint of volatile organic compounds present in the exhaled breath of Covid-19 patients.
A disposable breath collection chamber with infection control features securely traps any contagious material within the chamber, thus preventing direct exposure of these materials to others, such as healthcare workers.
Current studies
Unblinded studies - where participants have prior knowledge of their Covid-19 status - are ongoing at Changi Airport s Terminal 1 and the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID).
Participants who volunteer to be part of the study will take two tests: the breathalyser and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests.
