FORMER ruling All Basotho Convention (ABC) deputy Nqosa Mahao’s plans to push a successful no confidence vote against the Moeketsi Majoro-led governing coalition appear dead in the water at least for now.
This after only nine legislators dumped the ABC to join his newly formed Basotho Action Party (BAP). The nine who have publicly joined the BAP are Mphosong MP Libe Motšoane, Sotlehang Sekhamane (Maputsoe constituency), Fako Moshoeshoe (Mabote), ‘Mamoipone Senauoane (Thaba-Tseka), Motlatsi Maqelepo (Berea), Mphosi Nkhasi (Pela-Tšoeu), Nto Moakhi (Malibamatšo), Tello Kibane (Peka) and Motebang Koma (Koro-Koro).

PRIME Minister and All Basotho Convention (ABC) deputy leader Moeketsi Majoro has received a major boost in his quest to remain in power until next year’s general elections. This after Democratic Congress (DC) leader and Deputy Prime Minister Mathibeli Mokhothu restated his party’s commitment to upholding the two parties’ April 2020 coalition agreement which gave birth to the current Majoro-led governing coalition.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Dr Majoro at State House in Maseru yesterday, Mr Mokhothu said he had no intention of abandoning the government after the ABC’s split last week.

ALL Basotho Convention (ABC) secretary general, Lebohang Hlaele, says he never supported Nqosa Mahao’s election as deputy party leader.
Mr Hlaele said he and other ABC national executive committee (NEC) members were opposed to Prof Mahao’s election “from the word go” and only rallied behind him “on principle” after ABC leader and former Prime Minister Thomas Thabane attempted to oust him. Any such ouster would have been in defiance of the majority of ABC members’ decision to elect Prof Mahao to the second most powerful party job.
Soldiers go berserk
MASERU-A group of soldiers allegedly shot and killed a Peka man they accused of disarming and beating their colleague on Saturday night.
The incident happened in Peka’s Ha-Leburu village. The villagers say they are now living in fear.
Councillor Ratselane Molefetsane told thepost that trouble started at a local bar after a soldier had an argument with three men. Molefetsane said the three men then beat the soldier and took his gun.
He said some time later a group of soldiers descended on the bar, looking for the three men who had however fled.
“They tailed them (the men) and found one at one home. They killed him,’’ Molefetsane said.
