In the direct aftermath of the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria, EU-funded UN aid was delivered to Damascus despite the Assad regime’s disastrous track record, which includes stealing aid from international institutions. On the ground in Northwest Syria, frustration with the UN is rising, especially as aid from neighboring countries entered quickly.
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is concerned about two Syrian journalists held in refugee camps in Turkey who could be sent back to Syria, and calls on the Turkish government to act responsibly by preventing any expulsion of journalists to Syria and by immediately guaranteeing their safety in Turkey.
In an interview with Al-Monitor, Syrian Democratic Forces head Mazlum Kobane said he expects a Turkish attack in February, and warned Ankara should not punish Syria’s Kurds over its own failure to resolve its own domestic issues.
