Telenor Satellite announces revolutionary on-orbit life-extension service of its THOR 10-02 satellite in geosynchronous orbit

Telenor Satellite announces revolutionary on-orbit life-extension service of its THOR 10-02 satellite in geosynchronous orbit Oslo based Telenor Satellite, which delivers connectivity solutions for all maritime segments operating throughout the EMEA and North Atlantic regions, is delighted to announce the successful docking of Northrop Grumman’s MEV-2 (Mission Extension Vehicle) with its THOR 10-02 satellite. This represents the start of a new era for satellite communications, paving the way for a different approach to satellite servicing and life-extension possibilities. Morten Tengs, Telenor Satellite’s CEO, said: “This is a ground-breaking project and we are pleased to be a part of its success. Delivering exceptional satellite connectivity to our clients is our primary focus, and as a result of this historic mission, we will continue to serve our maritime and offshore customers with the critical connectivity solutions they depend on.”

Northrop Grumman s MEV-2 gives Intelsat satellite a new lease on life until the next rescue in another five years

After 17 years into a 13-year mission, that s not bad Richard Speed Tue 13 Apr 2021 // 14:12 UTC Share Copy Northrop Grumman s second Mission Extension Vehicle (MEV) has docked with Intelsat s IS-10-02 satellite, potentially extending the life of the latter by five years. Launched in 2004, IS-10-02 delivers broadband and media services over Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and South America. Half of its Ku band payload is owned by Telenor Satellite, which contributed to the MEV mission. Dubbed MEV-2, the spacecraft s mission differed from last year s successful demonstration with Intelsat s IS-901 satellite. This time around the docking occurred directly in the satellite s operational GEO orbit location, a first for the MEV fleet.
