Dhaka, Jan 19 : Bangladesh Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said that the country would receive two million doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine (Covishield) from India as a gift on Wednesday.
Maleque confirmed to IANS that a special Air India flight carrying the consignment would be landing at Dhaka airport on Wednesday, India has said in a letter to the Bangladesh government. We expect the vaccine will arrive as per schedule on Wednesday or on Thursday. I will personally receive the vaccine at Dhaka airport, the Health Minister said on Tuesday.

The twenty lakh doses of Covishield vaccine, being gifted by India, may reach the country tomorrow or on the next day [Thursday], health minister Zahid Maleque said today. We expect [the vaccine] will come as per schedule. There is a schedule for tomorrow, or it will arrive day after tomorrow, the health minister said while talking to journalists following a meeting with the health directorate officials at its headquarter in Dhaka.
The government is likely to start piloting the Covid-19 vaccination from next week with the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines obtained from the Indian government, doses of which are expected to arrive in Dhaka tomorrow.
