Lahore:
Police in Pakistan said six security personnel were taken hostage by a radical Islamic group after a week of violent clashes at the headquarters of Lahore following the arrest of the group’s leader on Sunday.
The Tehreek-e-Labak Pakistan (TLP) group gave the government a 20 April deadline to expel the French ambassador over the publication of cartoons depicting Prophet Mohammed in France. Authorities responded by arresting its leader, leading supporters to sit on protests and sit-ins in Pakistan. At least four people were killed, hundreds were injured and thousands more were arrested. Pakistan banned the group after the violence.
