All Oxfordshire care home residents now have their first Covid jab OXFORDSHIRE has finished the first round of Covid vaccinations in its care homes and is on course to jab all its most-vulnerable residents with their first dose by the middle of February. The county council has confirmed that the first round of Covid 19 vaccinations has been carried out across Oxfordshire’s care homes. A statement from the council said ‘GP practices, health care professionals and volunteers have all worked together to ensure that care home staff and residents received their first jabs before the government’s deadline of January 31’.
Coronavirus cases in Oxfordshire are decreasing as of the last week of January 2021. NOW is not the time to lift restrictions, an Oxfordshire health expert has warned, for fear of mutant coronavirus variants causing a higher number of cases than the UK has ever seen. Ansaf Azhar, the county’s director of public health, also said that case rates in the county were now decreasing thanks to lockdown measures introduced after Christmas. However, he also warned the county’s rates were still higher than in November when the second England-wide lockdown began, and added the local death rate from Covid is likely to rise over the next week before falling again.
