Peggy Purl Manawatū coordinator Jessica Thompson said it produced 366 blankets last year, made from over 7000 squares. Despite delivering about 20 blankets a month to each of the services, more was needed. “They would text me every month and say they needed more.” Knitting donations slowed down over summer and picked up in the winter, but the charity wanted to donate blankets before the cold weather hit, she said. The charity produced 366 blankets last year, made from over 7000 squares and about 100 knitters. Some knitters would send in dozens, while others donated a few squares at a time. Thompson joins the squares together, two volunteers crochet around the edges, and a local sewing group puts the labels on.
