The Royal Observatory Greenwich s 13th Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition has announced its shortlist of extraordinary celestial scenes.

The shortlisted photographers captured sights from across our Solar System, galaxy and the wider Universe.

The competition has received more than 4,500 entries from 75 countries.
The judges include Art Editor of BBC Sky at Night Magazine Steve Marsh, and comedian and keen amateur astronomer Jon Culshaw, alongside other experts from the worlds of art and astronomy.
The winning images will be displayed in an exhibition at the National Maritime Museum from 18 September.

Jill Biden is a Jersey Girl by birth and at heart.
While she mostly grew up outside of Philadelphia, she also lays claim South Jersey roots, having been born in Hammonton during a weekend visit to her grandparents house and spent much of her childhood in the state s southern counties. (The First Lady also lived for two years while a grade schooler in Mahwah, Bergen County.)
First Lady Jill Biden, who turns 70 on June 3, even identifies herself as “a Hammonton girl,” which is what she told a local paper during an interview there last year while visiting as the former Second Lady of the United States in July.

Steve Smith is back in the runs in the third Test at the SCG, with a couple of late wickets backing up his drought-breaking century on day two against India.
The tourists are 2-96 in response to what was comfortably Australia s best batting performance of the Test series.
Smith scored a sparkling 131 his first Test century since the Ashes in 2019 and his first in Australia since the 2017 Boxing Day Test, before his ball-tampering ban.
