THE DEPARTMENT of Budget and Management (DBM) identified six priority areas for next year’s P5.024-trillion national budget, such as the continuing coronavirus vaccine rollout and increased support for local governments, citing the need for belt-tightening measures amid “very limited fiscal space.”
At the same time, the DBM ordered government agencies to identify savings from their unspent 2020 budgets to augment pandemic relief measures.

Institutionalizing governing body for health crisis prevention and management sought as Bong Go files bill creating Center for Disease Control and Prevention
On Tuesday, May 4, Senator and Chair of the Senate Committee on Health Christopher Bong Go filed Senate Bill No. 2158 which seeks to create a government agency that will assume the responsibility of protecting the lives of millions of Filipinos by monitoring, tracking, responding to, and mitigating outbreaks of infectious diseases and other public health emergencies in the country.
This is one of the priority measures mentioned by President Rodrigo Duterte in his State of the Nation Address last year.

Bill establishing the Virology Science and Technology Institute of the Philippines filed by Bong Go to make Phl more prepared to face future health crises
Senator Christopher Bong Go, on Tuesday, May 4, filed a measure seeking to establish the Virology Science and Technology Institute of the Philippines (VIP) as he calls for a more proactive approach in dealing with future pandemics. In the long term, investing heavily on health research initiatives should be pursued. It is for this reason that I filed this bill in support of President Rodrigo Duterte s call to establish a virology institute that will capacitate the country to conduct scientific research initiatives and eventually develop our own vaccines, he said.
