Apple has announced its adoption of the RCS (rich communication services) messaging standard, which will be enabled via a software update later next year. This move is seen as a significant step towards making texting more inclusive for cross-platform communications. RCS is a messaging protocol developed by the GSM Association and is expected to replace SMS and MMS.
