The original slate of nominations for the Baeksang Art Awards was not necessarily a resounding success for Netflix. As was the case in terms of general buzz and ratings, the best-performing Netflix dramas were the ones that were simulcast on local television as opposed to exclusives for the streaming platform. The Baeksang Arts Awards is known as the Oscars of South Korea and has been recognizing stellar achievements in the Korean entertainment industry since 1965. Before the winners are selected every second quarter of the year, the nominees and nominated works are shown to a diverse set of critics. On the other hand, the TikTok Popularity award is given to the artist who garnered the highest number of votes on the said platform.

Korean actor Lee Byung-hun’s “The Man Standing Next” bagged best film at the 41st Blue Dragon Film Awards in South Korea.
The awards ceremony was held on Feb. 9 at Paradise City in Incheon and hosted by stars Kim Hye-soo and Yoo Yeon-seok.
“The Man Standing Next,” South Korea’s entry to the 93rd Academy Awards, edged out “Moonlit Winter,” “Voice of Silence,” “Moving On” and “Kim Ji-young: Born 1982” to win the best film award.

RIBA this week revealed the winners of the President s Awards for Research, a program established in 2006 to reward and encourage research in the fields of architecture and the built environment.
From the award winners in the four categories Climate Change, Cities and Community, Design and Technical, and History and Theory, the jury selected the work Probiotic Design by Richard Beckett from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London as the recipient of the 2020 RIBA President s Medal for Research.
