The city of cedar rapids and the best western Coopers Mill Hotel were talking about a possible buy out long before the flooding threat. City real estate manager rita rasmuseen says theyve been in talks with the Property Owners for about a year. The city had the Property Value assesesed and made a Purchase Agreement for more than 5 Million Dollars. Once they closed for the flooding it was decided to move forward with the sale. We have a signed Purchase Agreement from the Property Owner that will be presented on the City Council Agenda for october 11 recommended for approval and assuming thats approved we anticipate closing having them transfer title to the city hopefully by the end of the month.
