Fernando Alonso feels his day of running in the RS20 in Abu Dhabi may be “welcome” but it is “not very important”.
The double World Champion is in action at the Yas Marina circuit on Tuesday, putting in the laps in a 2020 Renault F1 car.
But while he already had a taste of the RS20, that was limited to just 100km during a filming day. On Tuesday he can do as many laps as he wants.
The FIA’s decision to allow Alonso to run in the young driver test, an outing usually reserved for drivers with two or fewer grands prix starts, irked Renault’s rivals.

Daniel Ricciardo said it was a “bonus” that his strong final race with Renault coincided with McLaren securing P3 in the Constructors’.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix brought at end to Ricciardo’s two-year stint with Renault as he now gears up to switch to McLaren for 2021, and P7, along with the bonus point for setting the fastest lap of the race, was in his mind a fantastic “send-off”.
And the “bonus” to that was McLaren overturning the 10-point deficit on Racing Point to claim P3 in the Constructors’ Championship with Lando Norris finishing P5 and Carlos Sainz P6 in Abu Dhabi.

Max Verstappen ended Mercedes’ dominance of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix by leading from start to finish and claiming his second victory of the 2020 season.
Mercedes went into the last race of an unprecedented campaign, with 17 races packed into 23 weekends, with a superb record at Yas Marina, but their usual power advantage was nowhere to be seen as Red Bull took the spoils.
The top three positions remained unchanged throughout with Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton constantly running second and third, as the seven-time World Champion returned to action following his self-isolation having tested positive for COVID-19, forcing him to miss last week’s Sakhir Grand Prix.
