He said they already have downed power lines and arcing trees. 15 years ago during hurricane rita, they had these Tropical Storm force winds theyre expecting in about three hours. It took down a lot of trees, some landing on houses, widespread power outages. A hospital had to be evacuated. Theyre prepared for that right now. The other concern you can see behind me is the red river. That, maybe five years ago, this whole area where i am flooded, so they are very concerned about flooding. In fact they have these high water vehicles they already had to use this morning in the fire department, because they had two residential fires, but the state also has provided a Water Rescue Team just in case they have a problem there. One relatively positive development i guess we can say is it appears that louisiana avoided the worst of the predictions of a 20foot storm surge to come with these horrific winds, but make no mistake. Hurricane laura is still very dangerous. Not only was it overnight but also as we speak, flash flooding, heavy rains, high winds all still happening at this hour as storm, as you can see there from the radar is moving north very strongly. As this storm hit in the middle of the night, people are really just starting to get a sense of the damage that they are facing today. Homes and businesses destroyed, trees down just everywhere, and that is likely just the beginning of it for folks. The storm also blowing out windows all over the place.
