Reporter a man lost control on highway 1 this morning. Crashed his car and ultimately was killed. Investigation into this accident left highway 1 shutdown both directions. Authorities have highway 1 shutdown at the south end. It is shutdown on the north end. Nobody is getting through here. Highway 1 closed in both directions just south of devils slide and down in the halfmoon bay area. This all happened before 3 30. You can get a look at the scene. Intersections through the east way. A major inconvenience for drivers in this area. It left a couple of people inside stuck inside the elevator at the hotel shaddock this morning. We were there at that scene. Berkeley firefighters were called in. They had to use special equipment to rescue those two people from the elevator. Now, this outage also prompted the closure of the Downtown Berkeley bart station. Bart says because there was no power, trains were not stopping at the station for a time, but that station has since re opened. Now, the outage happened about 9 30 this morning and it is due to a fire at that pg e substation. People were without power in berkeley, richmond, san pablo and el cerrito. With no lights at the Downtown Berkeley ymca, some people who showed up for dance class this morning, well, they had to improvise. Everybody was standing outside when i got there. Power was out.
