Lebanon is a country of 4 Million People that has absorbed 1. 1 million. By now, probably 1. 2 5 million syrians. The equivalent in the United States would be over the course of nine years they absorbed 80 million refugees. Turkey is a country of about 75 million. They have absorbed the largest number of refugees. That represents a smaller proportion of turkeys large population. Small country like lebanon or jordan, and all of these are countries in the developing world. It bears mentioning that worldwide, refugees are housed 86 of all refugees are hosted by countries in the global south. Thatemographic meeting of is very different than it would be for the United States or for the European Union or for larger, wealthier countries to absorb similar numbers. I think that illustrate some of the things were been talking about. I just saw an article saying the United States is now up to Something Like 8000 syrian refugees. In 1975, the u. S. Took in 150,000 vietnamese refugees. The space to
I just want to say to our guests that its a personal privilege for me and for my cofounder, who is floating around here somewhere, to be celebrating the publication of yet another book from the brilliant and prolific Douglas Rushkoff, who seems to have produced yet more works of brilliance every year. I dont know how you do it but fantastic that you keep doing it. As an author myself, i have to say that the publication of a book is a always a really special event. Youve put them together in a way that takes us on a journey with you, reading a book Still Matters in this age of bitesized social media and tweets and likes and so on. And there is, i think, nobody who has traveled in that space since its very early days when he wrote a book called siberia which almost didnt get published because first

Reporter an elected official but more than that a friend. Within his family, four people are gone. Youre tough, youre wonderful people. We want to get you home. Reporter evacuees are bolstered by the good news. Some evacuees are already back home. To clean it up. We dont know if well rebuild but to clean it up. To sift through the ashes, to see if we can find anything. Theres going to be rotten food in refrigerator and freezers. Reporter theres many questions, concern. If theres going to be trailers to come into the property, why do we build a home. Reporter ev
