team fox coverage continues now. rick leventhal with the news. new hope in pennsylvania tonight. and i understand things aren t as bad as officials had feared in that spot. that s right. there were predictions that the delaware river might be 4 to 6 feet higher than it is right now. that didn t happen. it crested earlier today just below the 13 foot flood level. but take a look at how strong the current is right now as the water rushes past us here in pennsylvania. this is a river that floods frequently. but it s not flooding as bad as they thought it might. it could have been it s over the banks but could have been much worse. earlier today, we spoke with the mayor of new hope about worst case scenarios. 500 residents affected. we have at least 25 businesses that would have been affected. they would have taken water and it would have been at least four or five days to clean up and get all that came in from the river into the streets. i am very, very relieved and happy tonight.
caused tons of trouble there. vermont is in a world of hurt and facing the worst flooding since 1927. a 141-year-old bridge here failed in the face of irene s onslaught, collapsing right into the river yesterday afternoon. and in bennington, vermont, a woman shot video of a car floating down the roaring branch river. we re told nobody was inside thankfully and it s really not clear tonight exactly how the car wound up in the water. the storm also hit massachusetts pretty hard. the governor there says 15 teams spread out across the state today to assess the damage and start planning repairs. team fox coverage continues, molly line live. dartmouth, mass, tonight. how are crews doing with this effort to restore the power there? you know what, it s a tough battle ahead and there are days if not all the way into the weekend before utility crews say
