It slammed into the embarcadero road overpass on southbound 101 at about 10 50 last night. Chp says the driver dropped off his load at the construction project, just up a little ways here on 101, and investigators say the most likely scenario is the driver just forgot to put down that bed and it crashed into the overpass, ripping it off the truck. Officers say he was taken to the hospital to be checked out for a possible broken nose. Crews are waiting on a Structural Engineer from caltrans to arrive on the scene from sacramento. Basically, they tell us that when they get to the scene, thats where matt is, theyre going to be using scissor lifts to look at a closer look at the dang here and look at this video that we have. The engineer will probably knock off some of the loose concrete to check out the extent of the damage, like if any rebar is broken. Best case scenario, the overpass is structurally sound. If theres major damage, though, they will need an emergency work order and get someone out there to replace the iron or steel girder holding up the bridge frame work. They are expecting about a thousand people to attend todays ceremony, which is scheduled to get started at 11 00, so it is running behind. Maybe more people, they say, it is just hard to know. Here is a look inside the pavilion where mike foley will be remembered. He was killed last week when he was hit by an inmate bus at the santa reesa jail on a dark, rainy, foggy morning. And he is survived by adult son and wife. And he has memories of his full and vibrant life. A sergeant explained why they are holding the memorial here in concord.
