legislature s super committee investigation if they can t get documents from two of the key figures involved. absolutely. it is a lot harder to say no to a u.s. attorney than a committee in the state. so one chess move by team christie worked out pretty well. the risk in putting out their report first baltimore perhaps it would be quickly contradicted by something that came out in the legislative investigation. but with that investigation kind of stoppered in that stepien and his colleague are concerned go it gives them a certain advantage. we won t have another turn of the wheel from them for quite a while until the u.s. attorneys start to get into the act. that could be a long time for everybody. but it is worth noting, steve. the reports that we got at the end of the last weekend. you talked about this on your show. this weekend, you know, he was reported to have been behind closed doors with these federal

a motive. and then we realized that buried in the report is approved targets. exactly what we ve been talking about from the beginning, that there was some kind of target from the mayor of fort lee for pressure, payback, whatever, revenge. and there you have him number two on the list of people that are going to be argued the. what kind of a motive is this guy looking for, this defense attorney in this case? well, clearly this was a political operation. when we look at all of the connections, we see that mayor sokolich was somebody that they sought an endorsement from. mayor sokolich was somebody who didn t deliver an endorsement. and there was clearly a lot of disappointment within team christie that was involved in trying to secure that endorsement. and what this report shows is that disappointment manifested itself with a lot of bad language at least and raises the suspicion of what happened with the bridge and was that related to their disappointment in not getting the endorsemen
this because david samson has been in public life for a long time. that was basically the assertion. governor christie also made the case that samson s resignation effective immediately was planned for and in the works for months. this comes as in great shock to me, terry, because david started talking to me a year ago about want to leave and the only reason he stayed is because i asked him to. so it didn t come as a shock to me this morning that he called and said it. now, that is classic political misdirection there. as if it matters whether the governor was personally shocked. obviously it s not shocking if they discussed this plan for a long time. the problem is with even all that time, the only public reason they re offering for samson leaving doesn t even make sense within their own story. it raises questions as to why samson, an accomplished former attorney general, thought it s safer to use that story line than talk to fellow lawyers on team christie about what happened. as
