Good morning, everyone. Thank you for coming. Well get started with our hearing. I want to thank mr. Comey, james comey, the former director of the fbi for appearing today before the committee to talk with us about cross fire hurricane and anything else the committee would like to speak with him about. So give a little brief introduction of why were here and what were trying to accomplish. The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act is a tool thats been around for a very long time. For our Intelligence Community, the fbi to make sure that when Foreign Agents, terrorists or agents of a Foreign Government are in our country, they can be surveilled if theyre doing things that are threatening to our National Security. I think this legislation goes all the way back to the 70s. And its been used a lot. Its been used in terrorist cases when we suspect someone of being a terrorist under the foreign intelligence act. We have the Legal Authority to surveil those people. And you can get a warrant u

11thhour plan would keep the government open for 45 days, but relies on democratic support to pass. Democrats say they need more time to read through the proposal and see whats actually in it. Just moments ago House Speaker mccarthy expressed his frustration about the process. I have tried for eight months. It took me a long time to get the Appropriation Bills on the floor. They were delayed. I tried yesterday with the most conservative Spending Bill you could find and i couldnt get 218 republicans on. This will be on suspension. It takes a higher threshold. What i am asking republicans and democrats alike, put your partisanship away, focus on the American Public. How can you, in good conscience, think of the men and women who volunteer to risk their lives to defend us to say they wcant be paid while we work out our differences . That is unfair. I cannot do that to our Men And Women In Uniform. So were going to keep government open. That was House Speaker Kevin Mccarthy, whos spoken qu
Now that weve seen the memo, the big question is, where does this leave the Robert Mueller special counsel investigation . Heres a tweet that the president put out this weekend. The memo totally vindicates trump in probe, but the russian witch hunt goes on and on. There was no collusion and there was no obstruction, the world now used because of one year of looking endlessly and finding nothing, collusion is dead. This is an american disgrace. Congressman stuart, does the g. O. P. Memo vindicate the president , does it end the need for the special prosecutors investigation . Congressman stewart no, it doesnt end that made it all. I think it would be a mistake for anyone to suggest that the special counsel shouldnt complete his work. I support his work, i want him to finish it. I hope he finishes it as quickly as possible. This memo has frankly nothing at all to do with a special counsel. It was one of the criticisms of people last week and before that who had never seen the memo who sa
