these municipalities. the criminal cases, as we keep discussing, often don t go very far. but certainly civil cases have been around for quite some time. john gaskin, a lot of us will remember that montgomery busboy cot that s lasted what, 381 days. it s now been 123 days since michael brown was shot. a week since the eric garner grand jury decision was released. what s the mood out there? you ore a community activist. are these protests going to continue? is it far from over or is it ending pretty soon? they re actually picking up with this week there are a number of civil disobedience actions that have been planned. there are a lot of teach-ins taking place in new york and across the country, especially in the bay area of california. this movement, compared to the
depressing, but it s also really hopeful that we ve been doing teach-ins around the country with women between the ages of 19 and 28. the depressing thing is they don t really know what s going on. they ve never heard of hobby lobby. they don t know who bobby jindal is or who their governors are. now they want to sign up. our future begins with us. these young women are starting to know that. if we can get messaging that they would access first and get the message second, pop culture, medians, music, what is this funny website? it s kind of daring. it s kind of edgy. then they learn something. there s tons of facts we have on the website. when you click on the video, you read the stuff going down in each state. then we say, get together with your girlfriends. get a beer. get some flyers. come back to lady parts justice. we re going to give you tips on how to make fun things to put on people s door steps, go door knocking. a whole new way of raising awareness. it s got to become part of
to be part of montgomery, the selma-to-montgomery marches this past march. what was important about that was not the march itself for me. what was important was that we represent a whoep bunch of folk at the university of alabama. we did a whole bunch of teach-ins, with kids, teachers, university professors, to the point that we had thousands of students actually marching with us on the last leg, understanding what it was about, understanding the connection between labor and civil rights and marching together to fight the heinous immigration laws that alabama had just passed. and marina, you had talked about student walk-outs. there are going to be some high schools, some students from middle schools, the universities have totally mobilized. there s more than as of last week, more than 100 faculty from cuny have volunteered to do the popular education in the park.
. guest: that was the late 60 s. the problem is it went from the substance to the violence. we are nowhere near that. we had teach-ins. neil: i was too young. guest: they were having teach-ins and people explained the war. that went fine. and then, what happened, the opposition became more radical and more violent. and that is set the middle of the country off. neil: so if you were president obama or . guest: and let me say the antiwar movement was more organized and was more, after nixon, middle-class oriented but no one is leading the ship. there is no voice saying they have something and they are right about wall street and the bailouts and fannie mae and freddie mac and the corruption is mutual.
