MEMBERS OF THE FIJIAN DIASPORA IN CANADA COMMENDED FOR THEIR HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE TO CYCLONE VICTIMS IN FIJI

Suva- The Fijian Government has conveyed its sincere gratitude to the members of the Fijian Diaspora in Canada for its continued humanitarian assistance to Fiji over the years, the latest being donations towards the Prime Minister’s Tropical Cyclone Yasa Relief Fund.
In thanking the Diaspora during a zoom meeting yesterday, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister, Mr Yogesh Karan said the tremendous assistance from the Fijian community in Canada has clearly exemplified their true Fijian spirit of showing love and care to those affected here at home.

The Fijian Diaspora in Canada will be contributing $40, 000 to the Prime Minister’s TC Yasa Relief Fund.
The money was collected during the Diaspora’s second fundraising drive.
Fiji’s Honorary Consul in Vancouver Bobby Naicker says they mobilised a team which volunteered during Christmas and New Year’s holidays to organise fundraising drives for the cyclone victims.

Naicker says such assistance “is a way of giving back to their homeland” and lending a helping hand to those affected
He also reaffirmed their support and commitment towards rebuilding the lives of the cyclone victims in Fiji.

People living in Tropical Cyclone affected areas can expect more assistance after BRED Bank Fiji made a cash donation of $112,500 to the Prime Minister’s TC Yasa Relief Fund.
BRED Bank Fiji CEO, Thierry Charras-Gillot says they are aware of the need for financial assistance to rebuild damaged homes, schools and infrastructure and this donation shows their commitment to the Fijian communities.
Charras-Gillot says to extend their support to the Fijian government during these difficult times their parent bank, BRED Banque Populaire in France and BRED Bank Fiji collected this donation.
